The Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation’s (SLVB) plans to take part in five international tournaments this year have been thrown into doubt because of the uncertain situation in the country.

It has arisen because the Sports Ministry and National Sports Council (NSC) are not functioning at the moment, SLVB secretary A.S. Nalaka said.

The SLVB has also put on hold selecting a national volleyball pool.

According to the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) 2022 calendar, Sri Lanka were to take part in the Asian Championship Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s Volleyball Tournaments, the Asian Under-23 and Under-18 Boys’ Tournaments, and the Asian Under-19 Girls’ Tournament.

Due to the economic hardships the country is going through, SLVB has decided not to take part in the Under-18 Boys’ and Under-19 Girls’ tournaments. The SLVB executive committee will make a decision on the other tournaments in the future.
