St. Joseph Vaz record tenth series win

St. Joseph Vaz Wennappuwa recorded their tenth limited over series win against traditional rivals St. Mary’s College Chilaw with a  crushing 170 runs in the 12th Battle of the Fraternal encounter played  at Chilaw yesterday.   

The Vazians were guided by two batting and bowling performances which paved the way to record the big win with ease.   

They were first steered by two sterling knocks by Vishwa  Rajapakse who made a quick fire 95 in 73 balls that included six  boundaries and six sixes and skipper Menusha Perera who cracked 94 in 79  balls with five boundaries and seven sixes. 

The pair put on a valuable 144 runs for the fourth wicket  and Perera shared another stand of 64 runs for the fifth wicket with  Deneth Nimsara which helped the Vazians taking first lease of the wicket  to make a formidable score of 315 runs.   

Later the Marian’s in their big run chase was mesmerized by  the left arm spin and right arm pace combination of Raveen Chinthana  who bagged five scalps and Suhada Fernando taking three wickets  combined with effect to bowl them out for 145 runs.

At Chilaw - St. Joseph Vaz won by 170 runs
