St. Thomas’ and HFC bag U-20 hockey titles

St. Thomas’ College, Matale and Holy Family Convent (HFC), Wennappuwa won the Boys’ and Girls’ titles respectively at the 19th Blue and Gold Under-20 Hockey Sevens held at the Royal College Sports Complex in Colombo.   

43 Boys’ Teams and 25 Girls’ Teams participated in this tournament, which was conducted by the Royal College, Colombo and Royal College Hockey Union.   
In the Boys’ final St. Thomas’ beat Kingswood College 3-0 and HFC, Wennappuwa beat Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya, Nawala 1-0 in the Girls’ Tournament final.   
Nethmina Dharmakeerthi of St. Thomas’ was named the Best Player in the Boys’ Tournament while Nipuni Fernando of HFC, Wennappuwa was selected the Best Player in the Girls’ Tournament.   

Abishek Gamagedera of St. Thomas’ was named as the Best Goal-keeper in the Boys’ Tournament while Chamodhi Sathsarani was named as the Best Goal-keeper in the Girls’ Tournament.

 Boys’ Plate Champions: Vidyartha. Runners-up: Royal, Colombo ‘Golds’. Third place: Vijaya College, Matale.   
Boys’ Bowl Champions: Prince of Wales. Runners-up: St. Sylvester’s, Kandy. Third place: S. Thomas’, Mount Lavinia.   
Girls’ Cup Champions: HFC, Wennappuwa. Runners-up: Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya, Nawala. Third place: Ladies’ College, Colombo.   
Girls’ Plate Champions: Musaeus. Runners-up: Southlands, Galle. Third place: Christ Church, Matale.   
Girls’ Bowl Champions: Swarnamali Girls’ College, Kandy. Runners-up: Janadhipathi Balika, Galle. Third place: Seethadevi Balika, Kandy.
