Tharushi breaks 400m record at All Island School Games

Tharushi Karunarathna won the 400m

Hangzhou Asian Games Middle Distance Gold medallist Tharushi Karunarathna participated in the 2023 All Island Schools Games Athletic championship and won a gold medal yesterday (24) in the U-20 Girls 400m Final Event with a New Meet Record.
The All Island Schools Games Athletic Championship conducted by the Ministry of Education will conclude on October 27 at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Tharushi Karunarathna of A.Rathnayaka National Schools, Walala participating in the last championship in her school sports career and broke her competition record  (54.22sec) by finishing yesterday’s U-20 400m Girls Final Event in a time of 53.21sec.
Today (25) she will participate in the 800m Girls heats. the final is scheduled for  tomorrow (26).
Meanwhile, on the second day of the championship, six new competition records were set with Kaveesha Karunaratne of Lankapura Galamuna MV breaking an 11-year-old record.
