Thomians take major honours at Royal –Thomian Hockey Encounters

A snap goal scored in the 12th Minute of the game by J.J. David gave S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia a thrilling one-nil win over Royal College Colombo, in the 21st Royal-Thomian U-20 Hockey Encounter 2022, played for the “Orville Abeynayake” Challenge Trophy, recently at the Torrington Astro Turf.  


In the U-16 encounter played earlier, S. Thomas’ fighting every inch of the way managed to beat Royal College 3-2. The scores stood 1-1 at half time.  


Royalists drew first blood, through a goal scored by Yusup Shihar in the 27th minute while the Thomians immediately drew level, goal scored by R. Sanka.  


The second period of play was fear-sly contested. Rumith Jayasinghe put Royal ahead in the 41st minute as the Thomians fought tooth and nail and equalised via R.L. B Kiridena in the 45th minute (2-all), the clincher for the Mt. Lavinia boys came in the 49th minute, T.A. Hisbullah sounding the boards.  


Royal won the U-35 encounter and the Over-35 encounter ended in a 3-3 draw. (BM)
