Three athletes qualify for World Juniors at Asian Games Trials

Three athletes achieved the 2022 World Junior Under 20 Athletic Qualifying Standard at the second Selection Trials for the Asian Games yesterday.


The second Selection Athletic Trial which began yesterday will conclude today at the Mahinda Rajapakse grounds, Diyagama.


Tharushi Karunaratne of A Ratnayake Central, Walala clocked a winning time of 54.29 seconds in the women’s 400m final while M.H.J. Uththara (55.19) of Holy Cross College, Gampaha came third in the event. Both performances were above the qualifying standard of 55.29 for the World Junior Athletics Championship.


Sithum Jayasundera of St Anne’s College, Kurunegala came second in the men’s 400m event clocking 47.33 which was better than the World Junior Athletics qualifying standard of 47.60.
