Football Sri Lanka (FSL) appointed a three-member Election Committee (EC) at a Special General Meeting held at the Sports Ministry in Colombo, ahead of the scheduled FSL Elections in January 2023.
Retired High Court Judge U. L. Majeed was appointed Chairman of the EC while retired High Court Judge Bandula Kumara Atapattu and retired Senior Government official Siripala Medaveva were appointed as Committee Members.
The EC was appointed by FSL following a hearing at the Court of Appeal and the calling for nominations and other matters related to the FSL Elections will be announced shortly.
Meanwhile, the Sports Ministry announced that the FSL Elections for the year of 2022/23 will be held for a period of five months.
A total of 66 football leagues affiliated to FSL are eligible to cast their vote at the upcoming FSL Elections.
Former FSL President Umar Jaswar is set to contest the elections once again while Dr. Manil Fernando, former FSL Presidents Anura Silva or either Ranjith Rodrigo will contest from the rival camp.
FSL is currently under the supervision of the Department of Sports Development headed by its Director General Amal Edirisuriya.
