Three new meet records were established on the third day of the 90th Ritzbury Sir John Tarbat Inter-Schools Senior Athletic Championships, continued at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Sports Complex in Diyagama yesterday.
Altogether a total of six new meet records have now been established at this meet, which concludes today.
Madushani Herath of Nannapurawa MV set a record in the Girls’ Under-18 long jump event with an effort of 6.09 metres to erase the previous best of 6.02m held by Ridma Nishani of Dharmasoka College in 2016.
Dananjaya Ranasgawa (5.72m) of Lyceum, Wattala took the second place while H. A. Fernando (5.49m) from Good Shepherd Convent, Panadura won the third place.
The second record of the day was set by P. Abisaliny of Hindu College, Chavakachcheri as she cleared 3.00m in the Girls’ Under-16 pole vault event and shattered the previous best of 2.30m held by Aakithya Jayathilaka of Ave Maria Convent, Negombo in 2019.
D. Fernando (2.29m) of Ave Maria Convent secured the second place in this event while the third place went to M. K. S. V. Karunaratne (2.20m) of Newsted Girls’ College, Negombo.
Meanwhile, the third record of the day came from the Boys’ Championship as K. M. D. Darshana of Ambagamuwa MMV clocked 52.25 seconds to win the Under-20 400m event while erasing the previous best of 52.69s held by M. M. P. L. Kodikara of Maliyadeva College in 2018.
T. O. V. Ariyawansa of St. Aloysius’ National School, Ratnapura won the second place in this event with a time of 53.96s followed by T. Piumal of Lyceum, Wattala with a time of 55.43s.
