Thurstan drub Isipathana

Thurstan College brought an end to a series of drawn encounters when they trounced their traditional rivals Isipathana College by 10 wickets in the 56th annual Battle of the Brothers Inter-School Big Match, which concluded at the SSC Grounds in Maitland Place on Saturday (23).

Isipathana following on were dismissed for 144 runs in their second innings with only Ravindu Ratnayake (49 n.o), Thevindu Damsara(39) and Mandeepa Gunasekara(23) providing any kind of resistance.

The chief destroyer was once again Sandaru Dias who claimed a superb six-wicket haul to finish with a matchbag of 10 wickets. 

Earlier, Thurstan went on to build up a commanding first innings lead of 107 runs thanks to a splendid 109 not out from Ranesh Silva. 

The elegant middle order batsman continued with the good work and played the sheet anchor role with the back up support coming from Anju Karunanayake (70).

Thurstan were left with an easy victory target of 37 and their openers knocked off the required runs without any difficulties while facing just 5.2 overs.
