Tokyo Games Tripartite Commission ‘invites’ shooter Tehani Erandi Egodawela of Sri Lanka Navy to compete in Olympics

Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Tripartite Commission Invitation Places has decided that veteran Sri Lanka shooter Tehani Egodawela is suitable to participate in the 10 metre women’s air rifle event at the Games.

This decision was conveyed to Sri Lanka’s National Olympic Committee (NOCSL) by the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Tripartite Commission, NOC SL president Suresh Subramaniam told the ‘Daily Mirror’.

After taking into consideration her performance in the 10m air rifle event, the NOCSL, International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) and International Olympic Committee (IOC), has decided that she is eligible to participate through the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Tripartite Commission Invitation Places.

Tehani Egodawela, 35, is placed in the 10m air rifle 223rd  world rankings, 77th in Asia and holds the Sri Lanka record of 623.3 in this event.

Her 2019 international achievement was being placed sixth in the 10m Air Rifle event at the HH The Amir of Kuwait 8th International Shooting Grand Prix after being securing eighth place in the qualification round, said Pradeep Edirisinghe, secretary of the Shooting Sports Federation of Sri Lanka.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Tripartite Commission Invitation Places is also considering artistic gymnast Milka Gehani de Silva who is on the verge of Olympic qualification, Subramaniam said.
