Trinity wins U-18 Rugby Sevens title

Trinity College clinched the All-Island Inter-Schools Under-18 Seven-A-Side rugby title with a comfortable 22-12 win over St. Joseph’s College in the Cup Championship final played at the Race Course Grounds in Reid Avenue on Tuesday (9).

Trinity having led 12-5 at the breather accumulated their points through one goal and four tries against a goal and a try scored by St. Joseph’s. 

In the run up to the final the Lions overcame D. S. Senanayake College while the Josephians had the better of the defending champions Science College Mount Lavinia.

Meanwhile two other teams from Kandy, St. Anthony’s College and Vidyartha College bagged the Plate title and the Bowl title respectively. 

The Antonians defeated Royal College and Vidyartha brushed aside the challenge of Lumbini MV. 

Meanwhile, Eheliyagoda MMV lifted the Shield title with an easy win over Richmond College.

Richmond beat Mahanama Colombo 24-5. Eheliyagoda MMV beat Royal Panadura 19-5. 
Bowl Championship: Lumbini MV beat St. Thomas’ College Matale 33-0, Nalanda beat Moratu MV 19-14, Vidyartha beat Maliyadeva 22-0, Zahira beat Ananda 17-12. 
Cup Championship: Science College beat Wesley 34-5. St. Joseph’s beat Royal 12-0. D. S. Senanayake College beat St. Anthony’s Kandy 24-0, Trinity beat Piliyandala MMV 33-17.
(Semi-finals):
Bowl Championship: Lumbini MV beat Nalanda 42-14, Vidyartha beat Zahira 57-0. 
Plate Championship: Royal beat Wesley 21-19, St. Anthony’s beat Piliyandala MMV 45-0. 
Cup Championship: St. Joseph’s beat Science College 22-17. Trinity beat D. S. Senanayake College 22-5.
