Triple titles for Anjalika, double for Thehan

The finals of the doubles events in the Mixed Open and the Girls’ Under 18 brought an end to the 106th National Tennis Championship yesterday at the SLTA tennis courts in Greenpath, Colombo.


Anjalika Kurera, who ended the 106th Colombo Tennis Championship by winning three titles, repeated that achievement when she bagged her third national title, having earlier won the Girls’ Under 18 and Women’s Open singles titles.


Kurera partnered by Thehan Wijemanne defeated the pair of Savini Jayasuriya and Chathurya Nilaweera in a hard fought two sets to one victory to clinch the title. In fact the champion pair won the same event at the 106th Colombo Tennis Championship while Thehan, who bagged four titles in his previous tournament, claimed his second title here having earlier won the Boys’ Under 18 doubles title.


Meanwhile in the other final that was worked in the evening session the pair of Tuvini de Alwis and Preethika Chandramohan, students of Methodist College and Asian International School, combining together to outclass Dewmini Warnasuriya and Nishka Vivekanandan by two sets to nil to clinch the Girls Under 18 title.
