Two Sri Lanka girls Gehansa Methnadi and Dinara de Silva tasted success on day one of the ITF World Junior J60 Tennis tournament when they won their first round matches played at the SLTA hard court in Greenpath, Colombo yesterday.
Methnadi overcame Kai Lin Yuan of China while De Silva got the better of Pehal Khardjar of India by the identical winning margins of two sets to nil. Juliusz Stanczyk of Poland defeated Ting Ho Yang of Taipei in another match that was played.
Meanwhile in the boys’ category Sri Lankans Gehash Tissera and Aahil Kaleel tasted defeat at the hands of Meguel iGlupas of Philippines and Juan Hsien Yu of Taipei while Juan Huang of China defeated Ting Ho Yang of Taipei with the winners succeed with two sets to nil victories.
The ITF World Junior J60 Tennis Tournament which got underway is being contested by 15 countries and is scheduled to end on September 8.
