Under-19 Cricket World Cup Dunith Wellalage to lead Sri Lanka U19

St Joseph’s allrounder Dunith Wellalage has been selected to lead the 17-member Sri Lanka Under-19 team for the forthcoming ICC U19 World Cup, scheduled to be played in the West Indies.

The Sri Lanka U19 team, which participated in the recently concluded U19 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates and ended up as the runners-up, losing to India U19 in the final, will leave for the West Indies straight from the UAE.


The Sri Lanka U19 team is slotted in Group D along with Australia, Scotland, and the host West Indies. They will play their first match against Scotland on January 14 at the Everest Cricket Club ground in Georgetown. They will play Australia U19 on January 17 before concluding the preliminary round against the host West Indies on 
January 21.

Bangladesh U19, Canada U19, England U19, and UAE U19 are in Group A; Group B consists of South Africa U19, India U19, Ireland U19, and Uganda U19; and Group C includes Zimbabwe U19, Afghanistan U19, Papua New Guinea U19, and Pakistan U19.
