The completion of the first round of matches in the Under 19 Provincial Youth League limited over tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket saw two players from outstation, Pasindu Menaka of Kurunegala Zone 2 and Oshan Thenuka of Hambantota, coming out on top in the list of batting and bowling performances.
Menaka, a member of Maliyadeva first eleven team, has scored 388 runs in five matches, inclusive of a top knock of 193 against Matale, and an average of 97.00
Supun Waduge of Kandy Zone 1, representing Trinity College, was second best with 346 runs, followed by Malith Lakshan of Kandy Zone 3 and St Sylvester’s College, who made 302 runs.
Left arm spinner Oshan Thenuka representing Debarawewa National School ended as the top bowler with 18 scalps with a best of 6 for 29 against Galle Zone 1. Chathum Lakpriya of Badulla and Bandarawela Central was the second best with 15 wickets followed by Kaveesha Lakmal of Kandy and St Anthony’s also 15. Meanwhile Colombo Zone 1 is on top in the Colombo North Zones and Gampaha Zone group having won all the five matches that they have played, chalking up 20 points.
Puttalam too has so far recorded five wins from five and they lead the North Western, Northern Province group.
Kandy Zone 3, also unbeaten with five wins from five, are on top in the Central and Eastern Province group while Colombo South Zone 2 and Colombo South Zone 1 with four wins each are joint leaders in the Colombo South Zones and Kalutara Zones group.
Galle Zone 1 with four wins from five are in top in the Southern and Uva Province group.
