The University of Sri Jayawardenapura won the overall championship at the 2022/2023 Inter-University Games.
Nearly 20,000 athletes from 16 universities participated in the Inter University Games conducted by the Sri Lanka University Sports Association (SLUSA).
Sri Jayawardenapura University finished with a total of 356.5 points to become overall champions, with their athletes winning the badminton (men’s and women’s), tennis (men’s and women’s), cricket, swimming (women’s) championships, while finishing runners-up in rugby, chess (men’s), hockey (women’s) and carrom (men’s).
University of Colombo finished second with a total of 340 points, while University of Sabaragamuwa finished third with 320 points.
SLUSA will select athletes for the 2023 World University Games based on the performances of this year’s games and it is expected to field a contingent of 50
to 60 athletes.
This year the World University Games will be held in New York, USA.
