Weightlifting Nationals in Polonnaruwa from Nov. 10

The weightlifting national championships for 2022, conducted by the Sri Lanka Weightlifting Federation (SLWF), will be held from November 10-13 at the Gallalla National School Complex in Polonnaruwa.

The meet will be conducted in three categories, namely senior, youth, and junior segments. Entries for this meet will close on October 28 and all applications should reach H. P. A. R. Bandara, President, SLWF, No 231/1, Park Place, 4th Cannel, Polonnaruwa via registered post. All competitors representing the elite pool, national pool and youth pool will participate in this meet and those who excel will be included in the national pool, Secretary SLWF, G. Nishanthan, said yesterday. Already, there are 26 weightlifters training in the national pool, and a further 13 weightlifters are training in the elite pool.

The national pool was established while targeting three key international events, including the 2022 IWF World Championship in December, the IWF World Championship in 2023 and the 2024 Olympics Games in France.
