Wesley secures U-16 rugby title

Wesley won the title after a lapse of 10 years having last emerged champions in 2008.

In the semi-finals Wesley overcame a spirited Royal team 10-5 while the Rajans had the better of St. Joseph’s College 12-10.

Isipathana College accounted for the Plate Championship while Science College accounted for the Bowl Championship.

Vidyartha College took home the Shield trophy.

Cup Championship (quarter-finals):

Royal beat Trinity 5-0, Wesley beat Isipathana 19-0, St. Joseph’s beat St. Peter’s 12-5, Dharmaraja beat St. Anthony’s 33-0.

(Semi-finals):

Wesley beat Royal 10-5, Dharmaraja beat St. Joseph’s 12-10.

(Final):

Wesley beat Dharmaraja 12-7.

Plate Championship (semi-finals)

Isipathana beat Trinity 10-5, St. Peter’s beat St. Anthony’s 24-19.

(Final):

Isipthana beat St. Peter’s 21-0.

Bowl (quarter-finals):

D. S. Senanayake beat Lumbini 12-5, St. Sylvester’s beat Sri Sumangala 26-5, Science College beat Mahanama 14-7, Kingswood beat Zahira 12-10.

Semi-finals:

D. S. Senanayake beat St. Anthony’s 29-10, Science College beat Kingswood 47-10.

(Final):

Science College beat D. S. Senanayake 12-0.

Shield (quarter-finals):

Piliyandala MV beat Carey 31-0, Nalanda beat Ananda 10-7, Vidyartha beat C. W. W. Kannangara MV 32-0, Lalith Athulathmudali MV beat Maliyadeva 19-12.

(Semi-finals):

Piliyandala MV beat Nalanda 5-0, Vidyartha beat Lalith Athulathmudali MV 5-0.

(Final):

Vidyartha beat Piliyandala MV 12-5.
