Winning start for Antonians

St. Anthony’s College Katugastota come out for the first time this season in their Under 19 Inter Schools cricket encounter beat Gurukula MV by 28 runs at Katugastota yesterday. Antonians are under their new Head Coach Kavinda Jayasuriya this season.   


Batting first the Antonians totalled 179 while the visitors were given a reduced target of 102 in 20 0vers due to rain in the Central Region. They were able to make only 75 for 4. The highlight of the innings was a fine 75 runs partnership between Janith Rathnasiri and Senura Abeysekera for the home team. 


Rathnasiri stroked nine elegant boundaries, while for the visitors its was fine left arm fast bowling by Tharusha Dilshara who took five early wickets for the Gurukula outfit. 


The Antonians recovered from 49 for 6 to end on 179.
