Women’s Asia Cup 2024: Khatun, Sultana steer Bangladesh Women to semis

Opener Murshida Khatun and skipper Nigar Sultana shone with half tons in Bangladesh Women’s big 114 run win over Malaysia Women in the 11th match of the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup tournament played at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium yesterday which helped them to book their berth to the semi final.   

Khatun slammed a 59 ball knock of 80 that included ten boundaries and a six and associated in two fruitful partnerships first an opening wicket stand of 65 runs with Dilara Akter and the other of 89 runs stand for the second wicket with skipper Sultana who remained unbeaten on 62 made in 37 balls which had five boundaries and two sixes for Bangladesh Women taking first lease of the wicket to make a formidable score of 191 for 2.   

Malaysia Women in pursuit of a challenging target of 192 runs was no doubt going to be a daunting task but even though they were unable to achieve it they had the satisfaction of having batted the full 20 overs to end with a score of 77 for 8. Bangladesh Women will now meet defending champions India Women in the semi final scheduled to be played tomorrow.
