Zoysa’s ICC charges upheld by ICC independent tribunal

The International Cricket Council (ICC) yesterday said that an independent Anti-Corruption Tribunal had found former Sri Lanka fast-bowler Nuwan Zoysa guilty of three offences under the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.

Zoysa was provisionally suspended by the ICC in November 2018 when he was charged on three counts of breaching the Anti-Corruption Code, after which the player had requested for a hearing before an independent tribunal.

The tribunal at upheld the three charges, which related to being party to an agreement or effort to fix or contrive or otherwise influence improperly the result, progress, conduct or other aspect(s) of a match (Article 2.1.1.); Directly or indirectly soliciting, inducing, enticing, instructing, persuading, encouraging or intentionally facilitating any Participant to breach Code Article 2.1. (Article 2.1.4) and failing to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in corrupt conduct under the Code (Article 2.4.4.).
Sanctions based on the charges will follow, ICC also said.

The Daily Mirror reached out Zoysa for a comment, but the former national team fast bowler said he would address the charges today.
