The All Share Price Index gained 34.6 points to close at 7,583.4 points (+0.5%), whilst the Milanka Price Index dipped marginally to close at 7,176.1 points (-0.1%).
The total turnover was LKR2,891.0 mn (USD26,045.0 k) vs.12-month average daily turnover of LKR2,703.2 mn (USD24,353.2 k) whilst the volume traded for the day was 70,840.8 k against the 12-month average daily volume of 91,300.0 k.
Top traded counters were Piramal Glass LKR221.2 (USD1,992.8 k, +7.3%) John Keells Holdings LKR197.9 mn (USD1,782.8 k, -0.0%), Sampath Bank LKR178.2 mn (USD1,605.4 k, -0.0%), Lanka Walltile LKR167.4 mn (USD1,508.1 k, +2.6%) and Laugfs Gas LKR157.7 mn (USD1,420.7 k, +2.3%).
Colombo Bourse closed in green although few blue chips lost ground during the latter half dragging down the MPI. Piramal Glass Ceylon saw renewed buying interest on the back of institutional and retail interest where the counter saw circa 22 million shares changing hands during the day. Heavy weight John Keells Holdings continued to gather momentum with institutional interest whilst institutional and high net worth participation was seen in Sampath Bank and Lanka Walltile. Further, strong retail interest was witnessed in Laugfs Gas during the day.
Net outflow of foreign funds was seen during the day, where foreign purchases amounted to LKR250.3 mn (USD2,254.9 k), whilst foreign sales amounted to LKR521.2 mn (USD4,695.5 k).
