The Colombo Stockbrokers Association (CSBA) recently launched a code of ethics and website to promote best practices and standards among its membership.
The launch of ‘Principles of Best Practice’ and the CSBA website was conducted under the aegis of Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Dr Nalaka Godahewa and Colombo Stock Exchange Chairman Krishan Balendra.
“Following the introduction of these Principles of Best Practice, we intend to promote professional standards among our members. This will in turn enhance investor confidence prompting the industry to undoubtedly enjoy the benefits of a vibrant market place,” CSBA President Dimuthu Abeysekera said.
The CSBA has a membership of 23, despite the Sri Lankan capital market having 28 broking houses. Several stockbrokers quit the association amid disagreements with the majority, at a time when the market regulator was taking stern actions against alleged market misconduct.
