Shuffling Suitcases started in 2017 with the aim of creating a platform for better choices by bringing sustainable homegrown brands and underground artists under one roof. While sustainability looked like a preached concept, we made it simpler and more achievable through our offline editions year after year.
Founded by Devyani Kapoor, a sustainability thought leader and a slow fashion advocate, we travel to cities all over in India and Internationally, and are now also available in Singapore and Europe.
The Conscious Edit in Sri Lanka will be our first offline edition in Colombo at The Design Collective Edit. Where we bring a thoughtfully curated lineup of Indian homegrown sustainable brands, that shall be a melting pot of traditions, cultures, fashion ethics and aesthetics as well as textiles coming from different parts of India only for Sri Lanka for four days. The one thought that binds the entire curation would be sustainability. In our efforts for making sustainability more accessible, we are excited to show you what we have in store specially for Sri Lanka. From linens to jamdanis to fabrics made organically, we pride ourselves for working towards the upliftment of artisan clusters all over India.
With this edit, we shall also take forward our campaign of growing a tree for every purchase made at our offline edition in the name of the customer. The customer won't be charged anything extra and will also receive a geo location along with images of their tree. This shall be their small act of reducing their carbon footprint while also making a conscious choice at the edition.
WHY SRI LANKA
“When I visited Sri Lanka for the second time in 2018, I visited the beautiful Design Collective Store on the 28th of November 2018. The aesthetics and values matched exactly what we do at Shuffling Suitcases in India, and I subtly dreamt of bringing Shuffling Suitcases to Sri Lanka at this very store. I was so sure about working with the very generous team at The Design Collective that we looked no further and tried to make this happen. Several delayed plans and a pandemic later, I am so excited to be coming to Sri Lanka with our suitcases full of sustainable options to choose from. From sustainable jewellery that stands out to minimal pieces crafted by hand by the Indian artisans to garments that were made while keeping the environment and the safety of the artisans in mind, I have curated a line up specially for Sri Lanka and look forward to meeting so many people in the four days of the edit. We shall also be growing Mango trees in the drought prone areas in India for every purchase made at this edition. The tree would be in the customers name where they'll receive regular updates and geo location of the tree. This is our little effort to minimise the carbon footprint and let people adopt a tree and do their act of kindness for our planet,” Devyani Kapoor, Founder and Curator, Shuffling Suitcases.
