From March 6th to 9th, 2024, Colombo Fashion Week (CFW) returns for its 21st edition, marking a significant milestone in Sri Lanka's fashion evolution. Casting its spotlight on multiple locations across Colombo, the event beckons travellers and fashion enthusiasts alike to immerse themselves in the city's pulsating creative pulse.
Since its inception in 2003, CFW has played an integral role in shaping Sri Lanka's fashion landscape. What began as a modest initiative has blossomed into a thriving platform, championing sustainability, and nurturing emerging talent. Under the visionary stewardship of Managing Director, Ajai Vir Singh, CFW has spearheaded ground-breaking initiatives such as Ethical Fashion Day and the Responsible Fashion Summit, solidifying its reputation as a global leader in ethical fashion.
In 2024, CFW transcends traditional runways, transforming Colombo into a dynamic tapestry of style and culture. Project Colombo extends beyond the confines of the catwalk, seamlessly integrating the city's inherent charm into every aspect of the event. Intimate gatherings at iconic landmarks showcase the exquisite creations of both established and up-and-coming Sri Lankan designers, promising a sensory feast for attendees.
International luminaries from Italy, England, Pakistan, and India, including Samant Chauhan, Payal Pratap, Alessandra Lorusso, Manoviraj Khosla, Afsana Ferdousi, and Charlotte Allen, will grace the stage alongside esteemed Sri Lankan designers such as Asanka De Mel, Darshi Keerthisena, Sonali Dharmawardena, Amilani Perera, Aslam Hussein, Kamil Hewawitharana, Dinushi Pamunuwa, Ayesh Wickramaratne, and Charini Suriyage. Over ten emerging designers will also showcase their talent during the event. The event, scheduled from March 6th to 9th, 2024, stands as a pivotal moment on the global fashion calendar, drawing enthusiasts from around the world.
Speaking to Daily Mirror, Charini Suriyage expressed her satisfaction, saying, “as a designer involved with the show from its very beginning, I am delighted to see my journey evolving alongside the program, now venturing into international opportunities with CFW.” Darshi Keerthisena stated that Buddhi Batiks collection this season, “is dedicated to the Founders of Buddhi Batiks; Buddhi and Ranasiri Keerthisena.” She further added that “all fabrics used in this collection are hand-crafted and hand-dyed batik, embellished and embroidered by hand.”
Designer, Amilani Perera stated, “having participated in Colombo Fashion Week for eleven consecutive years as a fashion designer, I welcome the fresh atmosphere and venues introduced for this year's show. I am eager to explore the new aesthetic they offer. Additionally, with the country's economic recovery, I anticipate a broader foreign audience and increased opportunities for fashion buyers to immerse themselves in Sri Lankan fashion. I foresee a flourishing season for fashion businesses post-Colombo Fashion Week.”
