“Life without Green,” Art Exhibition is to bring the inappropriate results of the contest between this environment and humans into a language of art. There is an inseparable relationship between nature and humans. The reason is that humans are a part of the natural ecosystem. But looking at today's world, man who was a part of this nature is challenging it and building their cultural world. As a result, the world is now plagued with natural disasters and calamities, and a difficult place to live.

The amazing talent behind all these masterpieces is Sanjaya Gunarathna. Mr. Gunarathna is a contemporary artist, animator, and graphic designer. His father was a music teacher and mother was a dancing teacher. Sanjaya was obsessed with drawing and painting as a kid with the influence of his grandfather. After finishing college education, he attended a three-year course of Traditional Artwork which was conducted by the Cultural Department. During that training course, Sanjaya sharpened his skills in different aspects of art including traditional art conservation and restoration, life drawing, sculpture, and landscape drawing. Sanjaya was influenced by Pablo Picasso, Michelangelo, Chamila Gamage. In 2011, Sanjaya joined a well-known TV channel, and he has made valuable contributions. He won the state award for the Best Animation Production at the State Television Arts Awards Ceremony in 2021.
The basic concept for “Life without Green” according to the artist is formed in the situation of the corona pandemic spread in the world. This situation can be considered as a serious warning given by nature to the entire world. Consequently, they are progressing while exploiting and destroying the environment.
Sanjaya says, “There is no real benefit of this development causing destruction of nature. Looking at today's society, it is evident that there is a tendency for people to suffer from excessive mental stress, epidemics, and cancer. Finally, it is my belief that nature is the eternal truth in the world. Therefore, the world cannot imagine a human existence without the color Green.”
Sanjaya’s styles of art are Expressionism Art, Modern art, Abstract art. “Life without Green” will be Sanjaya’s first solo art exhibition which is to be held at the Lionel Wendt Art Centre, Colombo from 24 February to 26 February 2023.
