Just over a year into operation, South Asia’s first lean luxury property Cinnamon Red received the ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System, OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Standard and ISO 14001 Environmental Management certifications for its commendable work, further establishing the hotel’s commitment to sustainable growth through environmentally-conscious practices, which promote a high standard of living.
Having been awarded these certifications under the consultancy of Nexus Business Solutions (Pvt.) Ltd, a leading consultancy company specialized in providing a range of services in the fields of quality management, environmental management, food standards and other in the South East Asian region, Cinnamon Red is confident in enhancing the quality standards of products and services in the future.
“Cinnamon Red was not just another project for our company,” Nexus Business Solutions (Pvt.) Ltd Managing Director Prabath Samarasinghe said.
“It was a challenging task as the property is new and also the spaces were comparatively smaller than most of the city hotels. But it wasan amazing experience working with the Cinnamon Red team, specially because of the commitment from General Manager Terrence Fernando and his team and the support rendered to us in completing the project as planned.”
Having started by working towards ISO 22000/HACCP-based Food Safety Management System, Cinnamon Red’s compact back office and operational areas – including kitchen and storage – posed no issue for the certification, as all aspects of food safety requirements were met thanks to Executive Chef SachindraGamage and team. A very good monitoring system was established as well, which supported this endeavour.”
The OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001standards were well supported by the team lead by Chief Engineer Russell Bandara, Head of Security Sujith Yapa, hotel’s heads of departments and their teams. All health and safety aspects were closely analysed and a system was put in place to prevent possible impacts and minimise the damage to guests and associates at Cinnamon Red.
“Cinnamon Red had implemented very comprehensive environment management practices, which in turn will help the hotel devise sustainable EMS, and positively support John Keells Holding’s EMS initiatives as well,” Samarasinghe assured, adding, “I am very confident that Cinnamon Red will maintain these standards without any issue.”
Cinnamon Red General Manager Terrence Fernando commenting on the certification noted, “This further cements our commitment towards continually raising the benchmark in all our operations. The certifications also reiterate our assurance as a hotel that delivers on high-quality product and service offerings to our guests.”
