Singapore Airlines recognizes top cargo agents

Singapore Airlines (SIA) Top Agent Awards 2015/2016 was held in Colombo recently, with Expolanka Freight Limited walking away with the Gold Award. It was held to recognize the best performing cargo trade partners of SIA.

The Silver and the Bronze Awards were won by TL World (Pvt.) Ltd, and Freight Links International (Pvt.)  
Ltd, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Merit awards were won by Mac Supply Chain Solutions (Pvt.) Ltd, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics (Pvt.) Ltd, KM Exports, Care Logistics (Pvt.) Ltd, Wings Logistics (Pvt.) Ltd, Maersk Lanka Pvt.) Ltd, and Dart Global Logistics (Pvt.) Ltd.

Speaking at the event, SIA Sri Lanka General Manager Richard Kwee said they have increased their flight frequency to Sri Lanka from 7-10 from last April. 
He said that they saw a better demand to Sri Lanka, as the tourism industry is growing and the infrastructure is improving. He said that it has been a bit challenging year 
for them.

“Sri Lanka has many things to offer. If you just take a drive you can go to a tea plantation, if you take another drive you can go to Sigiriya, Dambulla, if you take another drive you can go on a safari to the South, then the beach. These are all top notch international quality attractions and only a very few countries who can offer many things,” he said. “Singapore Airlines is here for a long time, we were here during even the difficult times, during the civil war we have been operating here,” he added.

Aitken Spence Aviation Managing Director Keethi Jayaweera told Mirror Business that in the past year the passenger market of SIA in Sri Lanka grew only by 1.3 percent. When it comes to cargo, he said that as the Sri Lanka’s exports are growing, certain airlines are bring in freighters, resulting in creating a big competition 
at present.
