Colombo Dockyard PLC on 9th June 2015, laid the keel to mark the commencement of construction of the 8 Ton Bollard Pull Tug Boat for the State Trading Organization of Maldives.
The Keel was laid at the auspicious time by a team led by Ranil Wijegunawardane Managing Director/ CEO comprising of M. Koshi Director, D.V. Abeysinghe General Manager (Projects & Engineering), S.D. Gilbert (Special Project Manager) and a host of other senior management and project management team. The surveyors of the project Indian Register of Shipping led by D.V.D. Prasadarao and his team S.S.Hewawasam, Chanaka Rupasinghe and Thusitha Herath were also present.
Colombo Dockyard is presently building large Offshore Support Vessels for the Oil and Gas exploration and production domain, namely 80 - 150 Ton Bollard Pull Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels, Multipurpose Platform Supply Vessels, Platform/ ROV Support Vessels, Crew Boats. At present 7 OSV’s are under construction for delivery in the period between 2015-2017.
Over the recent past, Colombo Dockyard has delivered more than 19 OSV’s to Singaporean and Indian Ship Owners and all vessels built by Colombo Dockyard, have been able to secure charters immediately the vessel is delivered to the Owners. These vessels have been the Charterer’s preferred choice due to its reliability and high levels of crew comfort provided in these class of vessels.
Colombo Dockyard is a public quoted company listed in the Colombo Stock Exchange and is also a licensed enterprise of the Board of Invest of Sri Lanka and is recognised as one of the most dynamic and comprehensive Shipbuilding and Ship repairing facility in the South Asia region and accounts closer to 2 percent of the total Sri Lankan export revenue earnings.
Currently on average Colombo Dockyard manufacture and deliver four Offshore Support Vessels per year and repairs over 160 vessels per year, generating millions of foreign exchange in to the Sri Lankan economy and providing direct and indirect employment to over 3000 Sri Lankans.
