On the direction of Tourism Minister Navin Dissanayake, the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) is taking tourism and MICE tourism training to regions and the last training was conducted for Kandy and Nuwara Eliya (NE) hoteliers in Kandy in association with the Kandy Hoteliers’ Association.
Training is one strategy for the development of MICE tourism adapted by the SLCB and by conducting this in the regions, everyone gets an opportunity to participate. The programme in Kandy was designed with many practical elements for participants to get a first-hand experience.
Over 50 took part in the training which was funded by the SLCB with the assistance of the Hoteliers’ Association. The trainers consisted of Ziyan Ameen – Aitken Spence, Felicia Adihetty – B Connected, Vipula Wanigasekera and Iyroshi Jayawardena from the SLCB, covering a wide range of areas in tourism and MICE tourism. This one full day programme also entailed a case study with full participation of the hoteliers in designing an incentive travel programme in which participants were encouraged to come up with creative ideas. “This is one of our tasks in the training – to make them think out of the box towards delighting the incentive travellers with a lifetime memory.” said SLCB CEO Vipula Wanigasekera.
