Women of Sri Lanka are possibly the most affected population of the negative consequences of the war, which ended in 2009. Many of them lost their male counterparts, including husbands, fathers, brothers and sons, while some of them went missing. After taking into consideration the plights of these women, who are being socially neglected and subjected to stigmatisation, the ICRC launched a ‘Peer to Peer Support Programme’ to help them. Through this programme, most of them had learned to cope better with their grief and to function properly when performing day-to-day activities today.
