The Sri Lankan elephant known by the term Elephas maximus maximus is one of three recognized subspecies of the Asian elephant, and native to Sri Lanka. The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is one of Sri Lanka most popular tourist destination. The orphanage is now home to 90 elephants.
