Defending champions Sri Lanka will take on the Philippines in their second match of the 12th Asian Netball Championship at the OCBL Arena Sports Hub, Singapore today.
Eleven Asian countries are participating in this tournament, which will conclude on September 11.
Earlier, Sri Lanka began their defence of the title with a convincing 102-14 victory over India, having led 34-2, 24-1, 21-7 and 23-4 in the four quarters respectively.
The architect of Sri Lanka’s victory was Goal Shooter Tharjani Sivalingam, who had an outstanding opening encounter.
Sri Lanka has emerged as a major force in Asian netball and has an excellent record at this event, having clinched the title on five occasions in 1989, 1997, 2001, 2009 and 2018.
Meanwhile, Skipper Gayanjali Amarawansa said that Sri Lanka should be able to overcome the Philippine challenge quite convincingly and record their second straight win of the tournament.
Sri Lanka will have the chance to finish as Group ‘A’ champions and advance to the second round if they can come out victorious in today’s encounter.
