14-year old Dinara bags third national title


108th National Tennis Championship

Fourteen-year old schoolgirl of St. Bridget’s Convent Dinara de Silva bagged her third title of the 108th National Tennis Championship when she emerged champion of the Women’s Open with a comfortable two sets to nil win against the experience Anjalika Kurura in the final played at the SLTA tennis courts in Greenpath, Colombo.

Dinara clinched the Girls Under 16 and 18 singles titles last week and in the process became the youngest ever to win the national women’s singles title.

Meanwhile reigning men’s national champion Ashen Silva retained his title when he defeated Chathurya Nilaweera in the Men’s Open final which was played over five sets by three sets to one. (M. Shamil Amit)

Result - Singles Finals:

  • Women’s Open - Dinara de Silva beat Anjalika Kurera 2-0 (6/2, 6/4)
  • Men’s Open – Ashen Silva beat Chathurya Nilaweera 3-1 (3/6, 6/4, 6/2, 7/5).
