Dinara sole Sri Lankan to enter ITF quarters

Dinara de Silva was the sole Sri Lanka player to qualify to the quarter-finals of the second ITF World Junior J60 Tennis Tournament, which continued at the SLTA Courts in Green Path, Colombo yesterday. 

Dinara recorded a comfortable 2-0 win against Hima Fernando of Great Britain in the second round match of the Girls’ Singles Tournament.

However, Sri Lanka’s Gehansa Methnadi, Methwan Wijemanne and Ganuka Fernando bowed out of contention. 

Gehansa lost to Stefi Aludo of the Philippines while Methwan and Ganuka lost to Luke Koh of Singapore and Ganuka to Viraj Gohil of India.

The quarter-finals are scheduled for today and Dinara is billed to meet Stefi Aludo who defeated Gehansa in the second round.

Sreenidhi Balaji (India) beat Elise Virr (Australia) 7-6, 7-6, Sohini Mohanty (India) beat Aaraa Aasaal (Maldives) 6-4, 6-1. Tennielle Madis (Philippines) beat Prisha Shinde (India) 6-3, 6-1.
Boys’ Singles (Second round): Luke Koh (Singapore) beat Methvan Wijemanne (Sri Lanka) 6-4, 6-3. Viraj Gohil (India) beat Ganuka Fernando (Sri Lanka) 6-2, 6-4. Tavish Pahwa (India) beat Miguel Iglupas (Philippines) 6-3, 7-5. Tzu Tseng (Chinese Taipei) beat Tong Liu (China) 6-1, 6-0. Kuan Yu (Chinese Taipei) beat Shao Zhang (China) 6-3, 6-1. Roman Kulpin beat Jian Huang (China) 6-3, 6-4. Ruochen Gao (China) beat Perawat Sukjai (Thailand) 6-1, 6-2. Venkat Batlanki (USA) beat Xi Huang (China) 7-5, 6-2.
