Dinuka keeps medal hopes alive


Dinuka’s opponent, despite being 12 years junior to him, played commendably against the Sri Lankan before going down 14-21, 15-15 respectively.

However, there was no success for Dinuka’s brother as Niluka lost his round of 32 fixture against Indonesia’s Phetpradab Khosit 12-21, 12-21 respectively.

Boxing

In the boxing ring, Keshani Kasturiarachchi was the first Sri Lankan pugilist to compete at the Games, but she was defeated by Kazakhstan’s Saniya Sultankyzy in the round of 16 stage of the Women’s featherweight category with all five judges awarding the bout to the Kazakh.

Hockey

There was success for Sri Lanka’s Hockey Team which won their first match of the Games, beating Hong Kong 4-0.

However, having lost their first two games, Sri Lanka will need to win their remaining matches against Indonesia and medal favourites India, to have any chance of finishing in the top two that will earn them a spot in the semi-finals.

Basketball

There were mixed results for Sri Lanka’s Men’s 3X3 Basketball Team, as they won their first match of the day yesterday before conceding the second.

They beat Vietnam 21-7 before going down to Indonesia 12-18.

Golf

Sri Lanka’s Men's golfers fell further adrift in the individual and team events, after the second-round at the Pondok Indah Golf and Country Club.

Sisira Kumara continued to be the best of Sri Lanka’s three golfers, but finished the second-round with a score of six over par 77 which saw him finish tied for 35th place.

Joseph de Soysa was a further two shots behind and in 45th, with Sachin Dias sitting tied for 53rd place with a score of 12 over par 82.

In the team event, Sri Lanka remained in 12th place with a score of 26 over par 232.

Rowing

Sri Lanka's rowers, taking part in the Men's Quadruple Sculls - Final B, finished behind Kazakhstan, which meant they finished the event in the bottom of eight teams.
