The future of Sri Lankan table tennis looks brighter than ever as a group of young and talented players gears up to represent the island nation at the prestigious Under-17 Coaching Programme under the banner of the Asian Table Tennis Union Academy in Doha, Qatar, from December 16 to 23.
This unique opportunity, named “Shaping Future Stars,” aims to provide aspiring table tennis players with world-class coaching and exposure to international competition, ultimately shaping the next generation of champions.
Sri Lanka’s representation in this programme is a testament to the country’s growing passion for table tennis and its commitment to nurturing young talent.
Tamadi Kavindya (Sri Devananda College, Ambalangoda), Shamalsha Perera (Holy Cross College, Gampaha), Mohomed Akram (Trinity College), Janith Mihilaka (Royal College, Colombo) and P. Kumudi de Silva (Sri Yashodara Maha Vidyalaya, Malabe) will attend as the official.
The U-17 Coaching Programme is a key initiative of the Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU), aimed at empowering young players from across Asia by providing them with advanced coaching, training techniques and exposure to the international table tennis scene.
The programme is designed to refine technical skills, build mental toughness and foster sportsmanship. Participants will receive direct training from top coaches, interact with peers from different countries, and gain invaluable experience that will help them progress to the next level of competition.
The academy in Doha offers an excellent platform for young athletes to challenge themselves, grow, and make lifelong connections with fellow table tennis enthusiasts.
