Galle demolish Dambulla to record second win

Galle coasted to a convincing eight-wicket win over Dambulla in the National Super League Limited Over Cricket Tournament encounter played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday. 

The winners also maintained their unbeaten record in the tournament.

The match got off to a late start due to bad weather and was curtailed to 39 overs. Dambulla, invited to take first lease of the wicket were reeling at 14 for five in the eighth over.

Anjala Bandara made a top score of 34 but they lost their remaining five wickets for the addition of 53 and were bowled out for 67. 

Galle in their run chase - helped by an 18-ball knock of 34 by Yasoda Lanka had little difficulties in their run chase as they raced to the target in just 5.5 overs.

Meanwhile, Colombo Skipper Charith Asalanka cracked his second successive hundred in their 164-run win over Kandy in another match played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Hambantota.

Asalanka was associated in a 179-run stand for the fourth wicket with Dasun Shanaka, who made 103 in 90 balls which had 10 boundaries and five sixes, which helped Colombo taking first lease of the wicket, to make a formidable 342 for eight.

Kavin Bandara made 57 and shared a brief stand of 42 runs for the sixth wicket with Skipper Chamika Karunaratne but Kandy were able to score only 178.

At R. Premadasa Stadium – Galle won by eight wickets.

Dambulla: 67 in 21.4 overs (Anjala Bandara 34, Dinuka Dilshan 4/12, Shiran Fernando 3/10)

Galle: 67/2 in 5.5 overs (Yashoda Lanka 34, Gayana Weerasinghe 2/9).

At Hambantota – Colombo won by 164 runs.

Colombo: 342/8 in 50 overs (Dasun Shanaka 103, Charith Asalanka 138 n.o, Nipun Ransika 3/29, Lasith Embuldeniya 2/49, Chamika Karunaratne 2/78)

Kandy: 178 in 38.5 overs (Kavin Bandara 57, Sithara Gimhan 37, Raveen de Silva 20 n.o, Dasun Shanaka 3/22, Vihas Thewmika 3/27, Dilum Sudeera 2/19).
