The Sri Lanka Netball Federation (SLNF) yesterday named veteran coach Hyacinth Wijesinghe as the new coach of the Sri Lanka Netball Team. 

 
This was the third time that Wijesinghe has held this position having earlier guided the Sri Lanka Team to emerge champions at the fifth Asian Championships in Colombo in 2001 and was also the coach of the Sri Lanka team which emerged runners-up at the 2012 Asian Championships in Colombo.   

Wijesinghe has been appointed as the national coach targeting the 2022 Asian Netball Championships in Singapore from September 3 to 10.   

Former Sri Lanka Coach Thilaka Jinadasa was the only other candidate who was in contention for this post and faced the five-member interview panel headed by General (Retired) Daya Ratnayake.   

Wijesinghe is a former Sri Lanka captain and has won national colours and is a former coach of the Singapore National Team.
