Malith Kaushan of De Mazenod College, Kandana and Seneka Gunaratne of Colombo International School Kandy were selected as the Best Boys’ and Girls’ Athletes respectively, at the 50th Sir John Tarbat Junior Athletics Championships held at the Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo.
St. Joseph’s College, Colombo and Musaeus College, Colombo came on top to bag the overall titles in the Boy’s and Girl’s categories respectively.
The event was conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Athletics Association and was sponsored by Ritzbury.
Kaushan cleared the Under-15 Boys’ Long Jump with 6.49 metres and for his performance, won the Boys’ Best Athlete award. In the Under-15 Girls’ 200 metres, Gunaratne clocked a timing of 25.7 sec to win the Best Athlete – Girls’ award.
The event was conducted under four age groups for both boys’ and girls’ (Under-12, Under-13, Under-14 and Under-15) and saw eight meet records established.
The runners-up in the Boys’ events were Lyceum International School, Wattala, while Vishaka Vidyalaya, Colombo claimed Silver in the Girls’ category.
D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo finished as second runners-up in the Boy’s category while third place went to Our Lady of Victory’s Convent, Moratuwa in the Girl’s category.
