The highest wicket-taking bowler in international cricket Muttiah Muralitharan is happy to be in the Sri Lanka Cricket’s cricket committee but will not hesitate to resign if the committee’s recommendations are not implemented.

The committee is chaired by Aravinda de Silva and includes Roshan Mahanama and Kumar Sangakkara. 

“Yes, ten years after my retirement from international cricket I have given my consent to be in the committee. I have joined this committee to help the game which we all love,” he said yesterday. 

The 48-year-old former off-spinner, who has 1347 wickets (800, 534 and 13 wickets in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively) however, warns, “If our recommendations are not implemented within three months, I will not wait to leave the committee.”

Muralitharan favours incentive-based contracts for the Sri Lanka cricketers.

“Definitely, the players are supposed to perform well when we pay them. If they don’t, they have no right to be in the team.”

“Even at corporate levels, the employees are given incentives to show their performance and the same rules should apply here,” he concluded.
