Navy Sports Club brought an end to their Dialog Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament campaign on a high note when they overpowered a lacklustre Air Force Sports Club unit by 41 points to 21 points in their Super Round fixture played at Welisara today (1).
The hosts collected their points through six tries, four conversions and a penalty while Air Force SC managed to score only three tries and three conversions.
Navy SC enjoyed a 27-0 lead at half time.
Raveen de Silva opened the scoring for the home side after four minutes on the clock and with the conversion by Skipper Thilina Weerasinghe, the scores were set to 7-0.
Chathura Seneviratne got his name on the scoresheet when he converted a penalty before a superb try by Buddhima Piyarathne, made the scores read 15-0.
Seneviratne managed to touch down eight minutes later as Air Force SC’s Gayantha Iddamalgoda was shown the yellow card.
A try in the 38th minute by Weerasinghe summed up the whole first half performance by the Airmen as he single handedly zipped through the Air Force SC defencse.
With Senevirathne’s conversion, the scores were set to 27-0 at half time.
Air Force SC came back stronger in the second half as Kishan Sooriya managed to get over the line after collecting the ball from Saraka Werella.
Charitha Seneviratne converted to set the scores to 27-7.
De Silva added his second try of the evening when he collected the ball and went over, following a clearing off error by the Airmen.
Stephen Sansony added the extras, to amend the scores to 34-7.
Air Force SC managed to score two tries in quick succession, both through Kaushal Manupriya to close the lead to 13 points.
Nuwan Perera converted both tries.
Saliya Hadapangoda added the sixth try for the hosts as he touched down comfortably to seal the victory.
