In high stakes move ahead of the IPL 2025 season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) yesterday retained Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana for a staggering INR 13 crore, equivalent to approximately US$ 1.56m.

The decision underscores CSK’s confidence in Pathirana’s exceptional talent, as he has become an integral part of their bowling line-up since joining the franchise.

Nicknamed “Baby Malinga” for his sling-arm action, Pathirana has quickly made an impression with his lethal pace and accuracy, especially in the death overs.

His ability to deliver under pressure makes him a strategic asset for CSK’s bowling line-up. Pathirana’s retention signals CSK’s focus on building a resilient bowling attack and investing in young talent who can evolve into consistent match-winners.

By banking on Pathirana’s potential, CSK is set to bolster their pace department with a promising young bowler capable of handling high-stakes situations.

Ahead of the mega IPL auction in November, the other key players retained by CSK are Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja (both INR 18 crore) and Shivam Dube (INR 12 crore).
