In one of the few successful results yesterday, MalinthaYapa and Asanka Pradeep Kumara won their Men’s Pool B Beach Volleyball encounter against Junyoung Kim and Hongchan Kim of Korea 2-0.
The Men’s and Women’s Kabaddi teams also registered wins, with the Women’s team winning both their games yesterday, beating Indonesia 34-17 and then Japan 22-17.
The Men’s team beat Thailand 46-29.
On the tennis courts, Seneviratne lost to Shuai Zhang of China in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 in the Women’s singles draw, while Dissanayake suffered a similar fate losing 6-3, 6-1 to Yasutaka Uchiyama of Japan in the Men’s competition.
AnjalikaKurera’s run in the women’s singles competition also came to an end when she conceded a 6-0, 6-1 defeat to Japan’s Miyu Kato.
Seneviratne and Kurera were also unsuccessful in the women’s doubles competition where they lost 6-1, 6-0 to Nalae Han and Kim Nari of South Korea.
Dissanayake and his doubles partner Yasitha de Silva, meanwhile, were unable to beat Kazakh duo TimurKhabibulin and AleksandrNedovyesov losing 6-4, 6-2.
Sri Lanka’s men’s hockey team suffered an 11-00 defeat to Japan, while the men’s volleyball team were beaten in four sets by Thailand.
Sri Lanka took the first set 25-13, but lost the next two sets 25-21 and 25-23 and, despite pushing their opponents, conceded the fourth and deciding set 27-25.
Meanwhile, NisansalaSandamali was routed 38-00 in the first round of her 67 kg Taekwondo Round of 16 clash against Julyana Al Sadeq of Jordan with ThisaraDharmapriya also suffering defeat in his 58kg Round of 32 clash against Hung Vo Quoc of Veitnam 40 – 11.
Sri Lanka’s only swimmer in action yesterday, AkalankaPeiris, finished fourth in his Men’s 50m Backstroke heat with a time of 26.57secs, and his 17th placed finish overall meant he did not qualify for the finals.
There was also disappointment for DinushaGomas, who could not register a lift in the Women’s 48kg Weightlifting competition, while the Sri Lanka finished last in Heat 1 of the Men’s Quadruple Sculls finishing with a time of 7:13.98secs.
