Hasantha Shehan Dilranga of A. Rathayaka Central College Walala, considered to be Sri Lanka's last medal hope at the Asian Junior Athletics Championship 2023, will participate in the 1,500m Boys final on Wednesday, the final day of the four-day championship in South Korea.
"Hasantha is in a good mental state to face the competition, so there is hope for a medal from him too," team coach Susantha Fernando said.
After winning five medals on the first two days of the competition, the third day proved less successful for the Sri Lankan athletes, with Ranindi Pehansa Gamage of Dharmapala Vidyalaya Pannipitiya placed 12th in the girls high jump finals on Tuesday.
Her best jump was for 1.60 metres, which was not enough for her to progress to the next round.
Sri Lanka are placed sixth in the medal table at the end of the third day.
Among the Sri Lanka athletes, Tharushi Karunarathna is the only athlete to win three medals.
She won the 800m girls and 4x400m Mixed Relay events and silver in the 400m girls final.
