Participating in the Asian Games for the first time, Sri Lanka’s Baseball team will face Thailand today with the winner qualifying for the main draw of the tournament.
In one of the biggest disappointments, Sri Lanka’s Indika Chathuranga Dissanayake, who won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year, was one of four weightlifters who were unable to record a total in the Men’s 69kg competition.
Dissanayake was successful in his first lift in the Snatch, lifting 130kg, but failed to improve on it, before failing in all three attempts in the Clean and Jerk.
Sampath Liyanage competing in the Taekwondo Men’s 63kg category won his Round of 32 encounter against Homma Masanojo of Japan 21-18, but lost his Round of 16 bout to Sardor Toirov of Uzbekistan 06-22.
The Men’s Hockey team also suffered defeat, losing 0-8 to Korea. In the pool, Sri Lanka’s Men’s 4x100m Freestyle finished sixth in their Heat but were subsequently disqualified.
In the Women’s 3X3 Basketball competition Sri Lanka were routed by Indonesia 09-21, while Sri Lanka finished last in the Men’s Quadruple Sculls Repechages with a time of 7:17.91secs.
