Three Sri Lankan youngsters, Sasen Premaratne, Sathiees Thuvakar and Ashlin de Silva tasted success in the ATF Under-16 Girls’ and Boys’ Week 1 Tennis Championship by coming out victorious in the second round matches played at the SLTA Courts in Green Path, Colombo yesterday.

Sasen defeated Hussain Naqeed of Sri Lanka, Sathiees overcame Lam Cheuk Him of Hong Kong and Ashlin got the better of Jayden Mendis of Sri Lanka with the trio winning by margins of two sets to nil.

But Sri Lanka’s Nanith Wijebandara bowed out of contention when he went down to Dalpatia Akashat of India. 

In the Girls’ category, Sri Lanka’s Faith Vithanage also bowed out of contention when she was beaten in the quarter-final encounter by Ungrish Divya of India. The championship will be continued today.

The ATF Tennis Tournament, conducted by the Asian Tennis Federation, is being hosted by the Sri Lanka Tennis Association with the participation of overseas players.


Results:
Boys’ second round: Dalpatia Akashat (India) beat Nanith Wijebandara (Sri Lanka) 6-3, 6-4. Sasen Premaratne (Sri Lanka) beat Hussain Naqeed (Sri Lanka) 6-0, 6-1. Sathiees Thuvakar (Sri Lanka) beat Lam Cheuk Him (Hong Kong) 6-3, 6-3. Ashlin de Silva (Sri Lanka) beat Jayden Mendis (Sri Lanka) 6-0, 6-1. (Girls’ quarter-finals): Ungrish Divya (India) beat Faith Vithanage (Sri Lanka) 6-1, 6-2.
