Tom Moody attends selection meeting as an observer, Chameera seeks paternity leave

Not only Sri Lankan selectors but captain Dimuth Karunratne and head coach Mickey Arthur (on zoom) selected the 18 players for the two Tests against Bangladesh to be played later this month, but the presence of Tom Moody at the meeting was significant.

"Tom Moody, who has recently been appointed as Sri Lanka's director of cricket was invited in the meeting on Monday. He was more as an observer,” a source said.

"His inputs will be sought from time to time."

Meanwhile, the name of Dushmantha Chameera is missing from the list of selected 18 players.

"He is out for personal reasons,” another source pointed out.

It is learnt that 29-year-old right arm fast bowler Chameera wants to be with his wife, who is expected to deliver their first child next week.

His place has been taken by another fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka.

The squad, which also includes Lahiru Kumara, is expected to assemble in Kandy on Thursday (by the time coach Arthur's hotel-quarantine period also ends) and the official training is likely to begin from Friday.

Both the Tests will be played at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium from April 20 to 24 and April 28 to May 2.
