Some of the biggest names in sevens rugby will be seen in action when the Sri Lanka Super Rugby Sevens Tournament first-leg gets underway at the Nittawela Stadium in Kandy on Saturday (8).
A number of top international stars from Samoa, Fiji, South Africa and Kenya are set to represent their respective franchise teams along with several Sri Lankan National Sevens players in this 2-day event.
The defending champions Mobitel Eagles are pooled in Group ‘B’ together with Access Kings, KBSL Dragons and Softlogic Warriors while Group ‘A’ will include Walkers CML Vipers, EZY Wolves, Etisalat Panthers and Cargills Gladiators.
The Mobitel Eagles will be led by former Sri Lanka Skipper Roshan Weeraratne and they will have the services of Fijians Semi Nakaira, Nasoni Tulgaloa and Joseva Bilo who all participated in the World Rugby Sevens Series.
Meanwhile, Access Kings will be captained by former Antonian, Kandy SC and Sri Lanka Sevens players DanushkaDyan.
Fiji National Sevens players John Vota and Stefano Cakounivalu are the two star players in the Access Kings squad.
Former Science College and Sri Lanka Sevens players Richard Dharmapala will Captain the Cargills Gladiators Team.
In addition, former Sri Lanka Sevens Captain Danushka Ranjan will lead the Walkers CML Vipers while Fazil Marija will be in charge of theEtisalat Panthers.
Ezy Wolves will be led by Sudarshana Muthuthanthri, KBSL Dragons will be captained by Thilina Weerasinghe while Softlogic Warriors will be led by Jason Dissanayake.
Meanwhile, four teams will participate in the Women’s Championship with Army SC and Navy SC in Group ‘A’ while Air Force SC and CR and FC in Group ‘B’.
Eight top teams will be vying for honours in the schools tournament with Isipathana, Dharmaraja, St. Joseph’s and St. Peter’s in Group ‘A’ while St. Anthony’s, Trinity, Science College and Kingswood in Group ‘B’.
