(Daily Mirror) - As the anticipation builds up for the start of the 2024 Inter-Schools rugby season, Trinity College are basking in the support of its esteemed sponsors, who have rallied behind the institution's rich sporting legacy.

Leading the charge as the team sponsor is National Development Bank (NDB), a prominent financial institution that has long been a pillar of support for Trinity's athletic endeavours.

Joining them as the telecommunications partner is SLT Mobitel, ensuring the team stays connected and well-equipped for the challenges ahead.

Rounding out the impressive roster of sponsors are Schokman and Samarawickrama, Softlogic Life, Montreal Consultant and the Araliya Group – all of whom have pledged their unwavering commitment to the College's sporting aspirations, coming in as Co-sponsors.

The other sponsors include Ceylon Agro Industries (Prima Group), Norfolk Foods, Sunrise Consumer Lanka, Elephant House Ice Cream and Beverages, Keells Food Products and Country Farms.

Trinity, a revered institution in the annals of Sri Lankan education, holds the distinction of being the first school to start playing rugby, alongside Kingswood College, in 1906.

This proud legacy has endured through the decades, with the school's rugby team consistently punching above its weight and inspiring generations of students.

The upcoming season will see Trinity take on their longtime rivals, S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia in a highly anticipated clash for the Cannon R. S. De Saram Shield on June 15 at the Pallekelle Stadium in Kandy.

Trinity Principal, Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundera said: "We are truly grateful for the faith and support our sponsors have placed in Trinity College," expressing his gratitude.

"Your commitment to our sporting legacy is a testament to the values we strive to instill in our students – excellence, teamwork and a relentless pursuit of success."

The event was organised by the Old Trinitians Rugby Scrummage (OTRS) headed by Rugby and Cricket Lion, national cricketer, Nilantha Ratnayake and his committee.
